In the student council we have started corridor duty. Two student councillors will stand in the corridors at morning tea and lunchtime. If someone comes inside they get a warning. If they come inside again without a reason they get their name in a notebook. If they come inside 3 times their teacher can put them in Time Out. We wear bright fluoro jackets so kids can notice us from far away. Corridor duty has improved our school now we have less people are coming inside at morning tea and lunch times.
On the 23rd of March the student council was given their first task. The task was to run two stalls at the Twilight Gala that was being held the next Friday night. The same day the student council had split up into two groups and had started to think about what type of stall they were going to run.The first team with Oliver, Katie, Isabella, Summa and Neve were running the sand bottle top dig.Whilst Halley, Rawan, Faith, Cody and Ben were running the ten pin tin bowling stall.
In the Year five and six classes the teachers handed out a notice to the children going home to their parents. The leaflet talked about the student council and its expectations for your child to fulfil. If your child wanted to enter you had to sign the sheet and hand it in to their teacher. Then your child had to write a speech about why they would be good for student council and what they would do to improve the school. Then the class would vote for one of the people after they had read out their speech. These are the people that were chosen. In Enthusiastic Three it was Oliver and Isabella, in Fearless Four it was Cody and Ben, in Sporty Six it was Rowan and Halley, in Supreme Seven it was Summa and Faith and in Ecstatic Eight it was Neve and Katie, and that is how the student council started in Hokowhitu School.
